Preventing the turmoil of head lice! A Lice Detectives giveaway!

There's not much with my kids that freaks me out. I've dealt with split lips that gush blood, being snotted on, attempting to catch puke, being poo-jinxed and so much more. There is one thing that I've been so paranoid about since day one of kindergarten, and that's head lice. Even typing this, I cringe and I get the heebie jeebies including a nervous itch. I've always just stood by keeping my daughters hair tied up in a ponytail, but am always open to the thought that there might just be products available that could help prevent head lice.

Thankfully, there ARE preventative products out there for head lice. Lice Detectives offers a repellent shampoo, a repellent conditioner and a repellent spray for a helping hand in keeping your household lice free. I've been using these on Boug for about a week now, and I'm quite happy since a) she doesn't have head lice, and b) these products smell phenomenal, and c) her hair feels so awesome that I'm tempted to use them on myself! The lice shampoo and conditioner repellents are pesticide-free and loaded with essential oils. They've been gentle enough on Miss Boug and I can completely agree with Lice Detectives in stating that they're ideal for daily use. The mint based formula that the repellent spray consists of is wonderful as well, its offensive to lice, but still smells great to me! These kits are perfect for the school year, or with the summer coming up, to take along to summer camp too!

Besides preventative products, you can also purchase complete removal kits from Lice Detectives, in the chance that someone in your household does end up with those nasty little buggers. The Lice Detectives lice removal kit is the ONLY d-i-y, complete, non-toxic system. And in the chance that you live in the Chicago area, their specialty is available to you. They have an in-home, lice treatment and removal service that will take the horror out of treating your household for a lice infestation!

Perfect summer skin with eos!

Its that time of year... the capris come out... the skirts get rocked... the shorts get exposure. Tank tops show off bare arms and the sun gets to touch skin that's been hiding all winter long. There are certain beauty routines that happen much more often in the summer versus the winter, and I can only be talking about one thing really. Shaving. I despise it, but I can't head out in the cute sundresses that I've been looking forward to all winter long without doing it. Again this year, I've started out right by using my by far, favorite, shaving cream. Evolution of Smooth, aka EOS, has been my favorite since last summer.EOS is so ridiculously moisturizing that I can't help but keep using it, its loaded with aloe, oat, shea butter and antioxidant vitamins E and C. It doesn't foam like other shaving creams, and to describe it, it feels more like a lotion on the skin. Maybe that's another way its able to be so ultra moisturizing?? The fragrances available are just as lovely as is how well it works! You can choose from pomegranate raspberry, lavender jasmine, sensitive fragrance free, or the one I've been using lately, the vanilla bliss!

The other huge perk about EOS that I love, it comes in a soft-touch, plastic pump bottle. And with Earth day coming, this is one of those great small changes that I was talking about that you can do to help our environment. Its recyclable!

EOS is available at walmart, target, walgreens, rite aid and other major retailers.

Pamper your skin with Cures by Avance

I'm sure I'm not the only woman out there who has problematic skin, and find its to be the absolute worst thing about physical appearance. Some days, I look at myself and think I look like a teenager going through puberty. At the same time, I do have regular 28 (almost 29) year old woman skin, with dry spots and I even have some wrinkles starting to form, YUCK!!

Cures by Avance has an awesome line that works with skin conditions, instead of catering to different skin types. Their four step routine is easy to work into your schedule in order to make yourself feel better about your skin.

You start with their Gentle Cleansing Milk, which I was able to try out. The formula truly is that, gentle. I absolutely loved how it felt on my skin while using it, and how my skin felt afterwards. The next step is the Anti-Acne Mask, which is great for acne prone skin. The camphor extracts that it contains helps to purify the skin and decongest. After that, there's the Pore Balancing Moisturizer, that not only moisturizes, but adjusts the pH levels in the skin, as well as helps to release impurities. Last but not least, there's the Cures Age Defyer Eye, that helps promote collagen production around the eyes, and leaves them softer, smoother and less lined. I tried out the Defyer Eye cream as well, and I can admit that after a few uses, I did feel brighter eyed!

Cures is a line that I'm sure is going to be some of my "must haves." They did what they needed to do, and they made me feel like I was indulging myself into an awesome routine as well. The collection is available at the Cures by Avance website, as well as spas in your local area. Also, when you "like" the Cures Facebook page, you'll receive a special offer!!

Healthy eating with tomatoes! #HuntsHealth

Being a single mom of two, it makes mealtime hard sometimes. Lots of the recipes that I want to try are definitely not for my kids tastes, and Lil' Buddy is ridiculously picky. I have to search to decide on meals that are not only healthy but that these kids will eat, and that I will enjoy as well. Its hard at times, but with Boug being almost 7, and Bud being almost 3, I've had time to get a little bit of a handle on it.

When I make up recipes, pretty much 100% of the time, they're "dedicated" to my kids. They're kid friendly and yummy, and I'm happy to share them on my site with my readers. One day, I was in a complete bind for dinner, had no idea what I was making and hadn't been to the store in a bit so supplies on hand were limited. I came up with my meal and Boug quickly dubbed it "Quickie Mac," for obvious reasons.

1 box of macaroni and cheese mix, (with ingredients to prepare as specified)
1 cup frozen peas
1 can Hunt's Petite Diced Tomatoes, drained
1/2 lb ground beef

I simply boiled up the mac for the mac and cheese, adding in the frozen peas, and browned the beef while I waited for the macaroni to cook. Once the mac was done, I prepared it as specified, and also stirred in the can of diced tomatoes that had been drained. I stirred in the browned ground beef as well. Next thing I knew, the kids were DEVOURING it!!

I love to use tomatoes in my recipes because they're one of those things that I know I can count on the kids eating. I feel good about them because they're a "heart healthy" food. There's a great article that outlines the dietary guidelines for 2010 to help you make some better food choices. There's also another great article that details the health benefits of tomatoes, and maybe it can help you make some better choices for your families health, definitely worth taking a look at. I learned that tomatoes are good for your heart, low in calories, rich in potassium, fiber, and the antioxidant lycopene.

Do you use tomatoes in your recipes? Do you have some favorite recipes that use tomatoes? Care to share?? I'm always looking for great recipes that my family will love!!

Fun time with Caillou!

There are very few television programs that my Lil' Buddy loves, and Caillou is one of them. If you aren't familiar with Caillou, he's an inquisitive little 4 year old with a little sister and a cat, who learns about common things in day to day life.

There's a few new Caillou toys out now, and Bud was excited to receive the Caillou bath time vehicle and the Caillou classic doll. Bud has brought his bath time vehicle in the tub with him and had a blast playing with Caillou, his kitty Gilbert and the boat that they get to sail around on.

The Caillou classic doll has been by Buddy's side since we received it. He loves to cuddle him and bring him on car rides with us! I've had to give it a few wipe downs, since my Lil' Buddy thinks that he can feed Caillou the same snacks that he eats, and I'm happy to say that since he has a vinyl head, arms and feet, he's so easy to clean.

I love both of these toys for Bud cause they encourage him to use his imagination and play independently. Both of these toys are available at Toys R Us, toysrus.com, and you can also find the Caillou doll on amazon.com.

B Kind 2 Earth Day! How can you help?

Earth Day is quickly approaching on Friday, April 22nd, and my kids and I are gearing up! Over the past year or so, we've been making small changes in our lives to benefit the Earth and to do better things for our surroundings. We've realized that every little bit helps and we're proud to be doing our part. The more that time goes by, the easier it becomes to keep up with the changes and continuously add in more ways that we can help our Earth. Cause when you really think about it, its the ONLY one we have, right?

I'm so proud to be a state leader for New York (holla New Yorkers!!) in the B Kind 2 Earth Day campaign with TheMotherhood.com, the National Wildlife Federation as well as Nickelodeon. You should have seen the look on Miss Boug's face when I told her about this project, she was crazy excited! You must know, that she is truly the one who pushes me to do more for the Earth. She's the one who pushes me to implement the changes in our household. I'm the girl that grew up using aerosol hairspray. Boug's the girl who has gotten me to switch to the pump kind.

With this B Kind 2 Earth Day campaign, I'd love to get some input from my readers. Give me your thoughts. Give me your goals. How are you going to become more Earth-Friendly this year? If that's too daunting, tell me ONE SMALL CHANGE that you're willing to make to help our planet. Leave me some notes in the comments section on this post, cause I'd love to put some ideas in motion. Head on over to the B Kind 2 Earth Day Facebook page and give it a "like." Post on the wall like I'm planning on, telling everyone what small change that you're going to do. Hit up twitter and tweet up what you're going to do for this amazing campaign, feel free to use the hashtag #kind2earth.

In another week or so, I'd like to start compiling the comments that are left here on A Couch With A View, as well as ones that are @'d to me on twitter or use the hashtag. That way maybe we can all work together to provide ideas for small, but much better, changes to help our planet!

UBP '11!!

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

I almost completely overlooked the Ultimate Blog Party, always hosted by 5M4M, this year, simply because life has been getting the best of me... Why may you ask??

My name is Casey, aka CaseyDeuce. I'm the single mom of 2 awesome kids, a 6 year old daughter (Boug) and a 2 year old son (Buddy). I work my hieney off waitressing and bartending to take care of them. My blog is my own little corner of the world where I do what I want, am able to connect with people, keep up with friends and so much more. I truly enjoy the connections that I've been able to make over the years with some seriously awesome people, as well as look forward to meeting so many more people in the future! (I just realized how much this years UBP post shadows last years... haha... I guess I'm unoriginal!! You can read my posts from 2009 and 2010 if you want to!!)

I can admit, I've been slacking on my site lately, and I hope to get back into the swing of things completely. I used to take part in a weekly menu plan, and I'm looking to get that going again soon, as well as much more. Just bear with me while I regain some focus.

Thank you so much for stopping by during the UBP and I truly hope that you stop back!!

Celebrating Mothers Day with Tiny Prints

Over the years, I've given advice (wanted and unwanted!) and received advice on parenting as well. I've heard some crappy advice, and I'm sure people have taken some stuff that I've said as crappy advice too. My own Mother has passed on more advice to me than she even knows, just by my own memories of her being a single mother, I've gotten so much out of it.

I can look back, and answer questions that I have for my own kids, just by thinking about how it was when I was a child being raised by my mom only. I'm so lucky and blessed that I had her, and I'm able to use it as a resource of raising my children without their father. I look at my kids and I hope that when they grow up, that they won't resent me for their dad not being here. I know that they won't though because I didn't resent my own mother for being a single mother. I can see that sometimes, one AMAZING parent, can sometimes have quadruple the positive impact. Of the past 7 years that I've celebrated a Mothers Day for myself, nothing exceeds the gift that my own Mom didn't even realize she has given me. It can't be repaid to her with a planter of flowers or a bottle of wine, but I can thank her every day and be happy I have her no matter what.

Tiny Prints provides simple, modern and unique stationery from Fathers Day Cards to personalized greeting cards to thank you cards, business cards, and even custom wedding invitations or photo birth announcements. Offering exclusive designs from the nation’s top designers, easy card personalization, a powerful preview engine and top-notch customer service and paper quality, their designs have been lauded by numerous television networks, publications and celebrities. With Tiny Prints by your side commemorating every holiday and momentous occasion is a cinch! They offer perfect party invitations for every occasion and memorable personalized photo-gifts like notebooks, photo books and calendars to commemorate the event.

To help celebrate a Mom in your life this Mothers Day, make sure you visit Tiny Print's Mothers Day card selection. Their prints are beautiful, and the choices are huge. There are cards for all sorts of women in your life, from the wife, the new mom, the "like a mom," the grandma and more. I personally would love to receive the "The Madre" card, cause my love of coffee and that card fits my personality perfectly!!

I received a Tiny Prints gift code for my opinions, which are my own, unchanged by any outside influence.

My Zulily Wish List!

There are just some places that have me writing up a wish list a mile long. Zulily is one of those websites that there's always something that I'm so smitten with...

My current Zulily wish list is rather lengthy. They're a "daily deals" type of site that features great prices for awesome products. Right now I'm wanting....

The Berry Genna Crocling Flat for my girl, on sale for $16.99. Crocs are on their final day of deals over at Zulily right now!!

The Dreamworks Collection is also on their final day of deals, and too cute to pass up is the Alex the Lion hoodie!!

Kische has some of the most lovely clothing for women that I've seen in a while. Its hard to narrow down what I'd love to own, but I'm eyeballin' the Moss Beaded Tank to go with the Moss Cardigan. Along with the Cement Crochet Yoke Tunic, I'm loving it.

For one of my besties, due with her very first baby in just under 3 weeks, I would so love to borrow him and dress him in some of the cute stuff from Fozia London. I soooo love the Navy Organic Kimono Playsuit!!

Last but not least, the JB Original Vintage selections are so ridiculously perfect for my son!! The Black Football Polo and the Dark Tan Gas Station shirt are so his style, and the Burgundy Stripe Joy Wind shorts are super great too!

I was not compensated in any way for this post, simply sharing some stuff I love!!

Wholesome snacking with Yoplait Kids (giveaway!)

I love being able to find wholesome snacks that my kids love, and the Yoplait Kids yogurts are definitely one of those. Thankfully, my children aren't big sweets kids, and will go for the fresh fruits, granola bars and yogurts that are in the kitchen over anything else.

Of all the yogurts available, I generally reach for Yoplait kids, because the characters they're branded with are some of my childrens most favorite. For them, Disney princesses, Dora and Lightning McQueen catch their eye immediately! I feel good about it cause they're an excellent source of calcium and vitamin D, as well as a good source of protein. They also have no high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, sweeteners or flavors! Miss Boug loves when I toss one right into her lunch box, its one of the things I throw in there that I know she'll eat and won't be bringing back home!

You can download a printable coupon for 50 cents off of your next purchase of Yoplait kids! Or, click through the microsite here, and be one of the first 20 people to submit your information for a coupon for a free 4 pack of Yoplait kids yogurt!
