Valuable information available through NMEDA

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of NMEDA for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Sometimes its hard to believe that my own grandparents, or even my parents, might be needing a wheelchair one day simply due to older age. Its even harder to believe, that God forbid, an accident may happen and someone that I care for may need one, even at a younger age. The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association, or NMEDA, is a wealth of resource if you're ever in a position to help someone gain their independence back, and gain their mobility back at the same time. NMEDA is a non-profit organization, that doesn't sell anything, yet educates consumers and promotes safe driving and driving equipment for disabled people. You can easily search their site for qualified dealers near you, or learn more about their Quality Assurance Program.

NMEDA's Quality Assurance Program is the only nationally recognized accreditation program for the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry. Its a wonderful thing, to have a great resource like that behind you while doing research and making purchases that can change a life and restore some independence for someone you love. Its good to know that their outlook is that if you want to consistently keep your customers satisfied, you must have a systematic and documented approach to quality. Its a shame more companies and more programs don't use an outlook like that.

I'm happy to know in the back of my mind that if I need to turn to NMEDA, I can, and I know where to go thanks to them. There's a mobility assistance vehicle dealer less than 20 miles away from me, and I was able to get that info quickly and easily from the NMEDA site. Do you have one to turn to near you? Search by your zip code to find out!

Lets talk about things that might pertain to some of my readers...

Its been brought to my attention that certain people have begun reading A Couch With A View. So on that note, I'd like to touch on some subjects and get your input on them, and maybe we can all share with those readers. I'm sure the readers won't comment, and will not take part in discussion, but maybe they will read and gain some insight!!

--Alcohol abuse & family, can one be stronger than the alcohol and put their family and responsibilities above it???

--Dating after a breakup, when is it alright to start dating after a breakup?

--Absentee parenting, when a parent is absent, is it alright for the remaining parent to use their best judgement in all situations or should they take the absentee parent's feelings into consideration?

Please feel free to go into other similar topics, I would love to hear your thoughts and your take on these and anything else pertinent!

Thank you all! Can't wait to hear what you have to say!!

Success Made Simple with GoalForIt.com!

With my children being ages 6 and 2, I've begun instilling responsibilities in them and I've tried to look for great ways to reinforce the qualities they are learning. There's lots of ways out there to do so, and one of them is the GoalForIt.com website. With GoalForIt.com's goal setting, chore charts, behavior charts, and to-do lists, things seem so much more clear cut and easier to accomplish without a major meltdown from the kids.

I do love that the chore charts and the behavior charts are great for kids of all ages, but its even nicer that the goal setting chart can be used by parents, as well as by kids. For instance, if I wanted to set myself up with a goal chart to buy myself a new laptop, I could set that up for myself. But if Boug wanted to set up a goal chart to buy herself a new video game, she could do that as well, using the same format.

One of my favorite things though that GoalForIt.com offers is the chore chart, because, at 6 years old, its time for Boug to start pulling some weight around here with chores. Even if its the simple things that she's doing! I'm loving that they have 50 different background themes for their chore charts, so I can print one out that's perfect for Boug and keeps her attention in it!

This is a compensated post written in conjuction with MomSelect. Although I am compensated for this post, these are my honest and true opinions!

Online shopping with Become.com

I'm a huge fan of shopping online. With the two kids, its so much easier to do shopping at home than it is to drag them both out to the stores or the mall, fight with them over what they are NOT getting, and I always end up spending more money when they're out shopping with me. I'd much rather be in my pajamas, in front of the computer, and with a "click-click" I'm done! Of course I'm always on the lookout for great shopping sites and a new one that I've found is Become.com!!

Become is a great comparison shopping site to help you snag the best deals, get great discounts and save money. They have information available on so many different types of products, so all your comparison shopping can be done in one spot!

I've been eyeballin' some of their info for some great household deals, you can check out what I've been checking out like the mini fridge or the wine glass rack. I also took a peek at the bread slicer and the pantry cabinet. Now if I only had unlimited funds and a bigger kitchen!!

Daydreams of Maui

With everything that has been going on in my life, I've found it hard to not sit and daydream. Think about picking up and moving away, settling down somewhere where the sun is bright, the air is warm and the activities are plentiful. I've gone as far as doing internet searches for beautiful places to live, though I don't think I could ever muster up the courage to move far away from my hometown here. Maui. I've sat on pages for Maui real estate before, I've drooled over the beautiful scenery and homes.

Of course Maui isn't the only place I've lusted after, I've looked at real estate in Florida, and thought about getting my honky tonk on while browsing real estate in Texas too. Every place I've looked at has its own perks, and I love something different about all the places I've looked at. Wishful thinking, daydreaming, playful beach thoughts. Every place has gotten stuck in my head, but none lately like Maui. Maybe its all the snow and ice we've had lately? And the lack thereof out in Hawaii?

Maybe one day, when the kids have all grown up, I'll have enough money to treat myself to a winter house out in Hawaii. Maybe you'll see me at 50, relaxing on the Maui beaches, with a cool drink in my hand and my toes in the sand. Ahhhh... wishful thinking. :)

Keeping up with me...

I figured since I went ahead and posted my "Current Events" I needed to sit here again and put forth an update. Things aren't much better around here, but I'm trying. All I can say is that I am truly blessed for the friends that I have in my life, and I don't want to call them out individually, but I will put it out there that they know who they are, and they know how lucky I feel to have them in my life.

I'm going through the motions that I need to go through I guess. Because of the fact that the ex lost his job, it left us without any health insurance. Of course we know this will be the time that something horrible happens, someone will break a leg or something, with my luck. I applied for Family Health Plus through the state, only to get a letter back stating that they can't approve my application until I petition for child support from the ex. That's such a headache that I so wasn't ready to deal with. There's no point in me worrying myself with that right now, since the man is out of a job and in rehab. I wanted to wait to take care of that, but I'm not left with much of a choice. I filled out the form and now I just gotta get down to the place to drop it off.

I had been seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist and I had been taking antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication. Life had overwhelmed me months ago and I took it upon myself to go. The $50 copay WITH insurance wasn't easy, but I did it. Now without insurance, I'm completely unable to go, and I'm completely unable to afford my prescriptions, especially the antidepressant, since there is no generic available for that. I'm trying to find my balance again, but its difficult.

Boug is struggling in school. I'm getting notes from the teacher saying that I need to schedule a conference because she's falling behind in reading. I'm trying my best here, but I don't really know what to do to help her, and I don't know if this is just her acting out because the situation at home is what it is.

I've requested to postpone my custody court date, since when the ex left town, I was unable to have him served with the papers in time for the original court date. Now I'll patiently wait for the next court date to be known to me, new papers to serve him and hopefully have him served in time. I need to do the whole custody thing, cause God forbid he decide to grab the kids and take off with them. I'm not even sure what I would do.

I wish I could have all my friends that are scattered all over the country in one place. Like some sort of a commune. Like where we take care of each other and stuff, cause Lord knows I can't do all this on my own right now. I'm doing my best though. I'm surviving and that's all I can hope for at this point.

This DVD is the ultimate masquerade party for preschoolers, Mickey, Minnie and all the friends together in the latest episodes that celebrate friendship, teamwork, sharing and problem solving.
